Te Hononga o Ngaa Awa
"Our name Te Hononga o Ngā Awa comes from the merging of the waters of the Ruakituri and Hangaroa rivers with the Wairoa river. It is a powerful statement about the kinship, the whakapapa in the kāhui, and the close location of our marae to these all-important awa.
Our waterways and our rivers are: Ruakituri, Hangaroa, Kaitarahae, Mangapoike, and Waiau - all flow into the one awa: Te Wairoa Hōpūpū Hōnengenenge Mātangirau. Let that speak to the world of who we are." Richard Puanaki
He mean nui tonu tenei ta te rautaki me ona wahanga me te tirohanga whānui hoki, hei whakaaturia ki a tatou ngā hua e hiahia ai.
I tohungia tatou e te Whare Hukahuka te whakamahi i tenei kiwaha: Ka taea e tatou... penei ki tenei tauira - Ka taea e tatou te tunga hei rarama tumanako hei rarama tonuitanga mo to tatou iti (te tirohanga whānui o Tuaropaki)
E whai ake nei he korero tirohanga whānui mo tatou te kahui, mai i nga korero o runga:
Ka hanga e tātou he huarahi
mo a tatou mokopuna
kia tuhonotia ratou
ki nga tonuitanga o te ao whānui
otira ki te ao o nga matua tupuna
Ma te mokopuna, mo te mokopuna, ka eke
The aim of this text is to embody our whakatauaki- Ma te mokopuna, mo te mokopuna, ka eke - in a vision statement for us of Te Hōnonga o Ngā Awa.
In the first workshop undertaken for us by Te Whare Hukahuka, the essential aim was to explore strategy processes, to identify the pathway which would best serve our kāhui to achieve its vision.
It is crucial that with the strategy and its components along with the vision, what we intend to achieve is clearly evident.
The Ware Hukahuka advised us to work at this formula: We will... like in this example - We will act as a beacon of hope and prosperity for our people (the vision for Tuaropaki).
Following is a vision statement for us the kāhui, which takes into account all of the above:
We will create a pathway
for our grandchildren
that connects them
to the benefits of the global world
and to the world of their ancestors
by the grandhild, for the grandchild,
to fulfill his/her potential.

A cluster of stars! A cluster of people!
To my family, my kinfolk, my people
I acknowledge you as always
my relatives from Erepeti
from Te Reinga, from Putahi
from Aranui, from Hinemihi
Waipaoa, Waikokopu
Wairoa-Waikaremoana Trust
It is us together! My kinfolk!
As our tupuna would say:
We are the blending of our rivers
Ruakituri!
Hangaroa, Kaitarahae!
Mangapoike, Waiau, flow into Te Wairoa awa
the rivers blended, merged, unified!
It is us together who are the waters, the rivers
The waters, the rivers are us!
This waiata is a way for us to celebrate the ancestral ties and the resulting relationships that bind us together as te kahui o Te Hōnonga o Ngā Awa. In respect of this, ngā marae o Erepeti, Te Reinga, Putahi, Aranui, and Hinemihi are acknowledged; ngā whānau a Hinemanuhiri ki Waipaoa me te whānau Whaanga ki Waikokopu are acknowledged; and the Wairoa
Waikaremoana Trust Board is also acknowledged.
